At that time the kingdom of heaven will be like ten virgins who took their lamps and went out to meet the bridegroom. Five of them were foolish and five were wise. The foolish ones took their lamps but did not take any oil with them. The wise, however, took oil in jars along with their lamps. The bridegroom was a long time in coming, and they all became drowsy and fell asleep“ (vs.1-5).
“At midnight the cry rang out: ‘Here’s the bridegroom! Come out to meet him!’ Then all the virgins woke up and trimmed their lamps. The foolish ones said to the wise, ‘Give us some of your oil; our lamps are going out.’ ‘No, ‘they replied, ‘there may not be enough for both us and you. Instead, go to those who sell oil and buy some for yourselves.’ But while they were on their way to buy the oil, the bridegroom arrived. The virgins who were ready went in with him to the wedding banquet. And the door was shut“ (vs.6-10).
“Later the others also came. ‘Sir! Sir!’ they said. ‘Open the door for us!’ But he replied, ‘ I tell you the truth, I don’t know you.’ Therefore keep watch, because you do not know the day or the hour wherein the Son of man comes“ (vs.11-13). Mathew 25:1-13
This was one of the many parables the Lord Jesus told his disciples about how the kingdom of Heaven and his second coming on earth will be like. There are two key things one needs to understand about this parables
Firstly, the fact that the ten are virgins depict their qualification to meet the Lord Jesus Christ. I strongly believed they have been selected among the crowd the same way you are I have been selected today as God Holy people to meet the Lord Jesus at his second coming
Secondly, the ten virgins referenced and knew the Lord Jesus as their personal Lord and Saviour also the same way most Christians see him today.
But have we not been sleeping in the faith that we have been called ? Or haven’t we become foolish like five other virgins that failed to prepare for the Lord’s coming?. Have we not allowed the deceit of riches of this present age to take away our pride and hope? Do we even for once in a week think about His second coming? We are always busy with worldly activities, you just want to gain the best of the world, you want to be the richest man in the world, you’ve loved your life so much that you pursue it with every energy in you. Your work and family have always been your excuse for your inconsistencies with God. You claim He is Lord and fail to honour Him. But do you know in your pursuit for all these worldly desires, Jesus might come today or the owner of your life might inquire it from you?. There is no difference between you and the Gentiles, the same desire for worldliness dominate your minds.
Jesus says in the book of John that anyone who loves their life will lose it, while anyone who hates their life in this world will keep it for eternal life. What if today, the sky turns black and darkened and the son of man appears in the sky with his holy angels to judge the world. Will you be able to face him?. This calls for our total submission to God and a genuine repentance for us to retrace our steps back to the old rugged cross. We need to be ready for His second coming for the time draweth nearer when the glory of the Son of God will be revealed. Watch and Pray! Study the word of God to make yourself approved, be kind and have a heart of kindness towards your neighbour. God Bless!
